The weather was fantastic, which is always a bonus. We have fallen in love with St Clement, it was so idyllic.
I have no doubt we will be contacting you in the future to arrange a return visit."

"I just wanted to thank you for our stay at the Cottage.
Everything was very nice and we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. It
was such a change from the New York City area to find ourselves on a
beautiful country lane!  We  would love to return someday.
Thanks again for sharing your wonderful home in St.Clement with us....."

"Just wanted to let you know what a lovely time we had staying at Churchtown Farm. The cottage was lovely, very pretty and very well equipped too!

Churchtown Farm Cottage is located in the quiet village of St. Clement a short distance from the center of Truro (about 30 minute walk or 5 minute drive) but a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is located on the river and  in a protected area of "natural beauty". The farm lane is opposite the most photographed church in Cornwall that you will see adorns, calendars, postcards and biscuit tins all around the county!

The cottage was originally a stable block built in the late 1800s and it lies to one side of the original farm yard and is adjacent to the main house. Churchtown Farm was originally the home farm that served the "Big House" a short way up the river - the Pencalenick Estate. The stately home still stands and is now a school. The Farm and land was purchased by the Royal Duchy of Cornwall in the 1930's and it still belongs to Prince Charles. The Farm house and buildings had fallen into disrepair after the war and by 1980 the buildings were used maily for storage. At about this time the buildings were purchased from the Duchy and the main house was extensively renovated. The cottage remained unfinished untill 2003 when they were renovated to provide the current  accomodation.

The front of Churchtown Farm Cottage maintains the original look of working farm buildings.
Around the back is a sunny sitting area with a low wall and rockery that opens up to the main farm yard.
From the sitting area looking towards the dining and kitchen
The kitchen includes, ceramic hobb, oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster and kettle along with all new pots'n'pans, cutlery and dishes. Light and bright and ready for a gourmet cook-up!
* The dishwasher is not available for use on weekly rentals
Looking from the kitchen end down to the double bedroom. The couch in the sitting area is a convertible double bed. There is a TV with VHS player along with radio/CD system and a great selection of old books!

Sailing anyone?
The cottage is a conversion of two barns. We have re-roofed the whole length of buildings, keeping almost all of the original Delabole slates.
The barn was likely to originally have been the stable for the farm and cart horses. More recently it housed the tractors and farm machinery, before becoming an open garage or carport.
We kept almost all of the original timbers and used insulation above the purloins and below the slates. We were able to save all but a few of the smaller beams. Skylights shower the area with natural light.
This phase of the conversion includes two large double bedrooms, and a bathroom.
The open beam ceiling makes the small cottage feel much larger. Skylights illuminate the ceiling area and the afternoon sun streams through the front windows.
The small bathroom has recessed lighting, full size bath and shower with great water pressure!
Due to the fact that the water is heated by an  "on-demand" electric heater - showering is the easiest! The bath will take a while to fill!
A double bed is in the large bedroom at the end of the cottage
Two single beds in the second bedroom
The Double bedroom has a built in washer/dryer and a handy bathroom sink.
* The washer/Dryer is not available for short term rentals.
Back Garden of Main House
The Farm House
The main House & Yard
The back garden of the main house can be used by guests. A large patio with table and chairs adjoins the lawn area.
The gate to the main house opens to the original farm yard.
The Stable cottage is in the building to the right in this view. The main yard can be used for parking or other activities.
(The Old Farm Yard before new landscaping 05)
New yard with lower lawn and patio and upper gravel courtyard
For sailors it may be possible to rent a boat at Malpas - a short walk from the house - the estuary takes you down to Falmouth and beyond!
When it rains you can get wet indoors too at the fantastic Ships and Castles recreation center a few miles away at Falmouth
The main house gardens includes some ropes and swings that our kids really enjoy - but be carefull please!
For walkers and bird watchers, this is a conservation area, and there are miles of fantastic country walks.
The creek next to the house is tidal, and so is ever-changing. At low tide you will see all sorts of rare birds, including Herons and Kingfishers.
Accross from the farm entrance is the ancient village church. The three cottages in the fore-ground were at one time the vil age pub - the Ship Inn, now three cottages.

St Clement Bay on the river - just at the bottom of the farm lane!

The Heron Inn is just a 30 minute walk over the hill, across a stream and through the woods behind the farm!

MAIN FARM HOUSE
Remodeled yard, kitchen, bathrooms and dining room in Main Farm House

Churchtown Farm by Nicky Rowlands 2006

The main farm house is also available for letting - please email for availability - two week minimum stay - sleeps 6-8 people.

We provide bottom sheets for the beds and duvets. We ask that you bring pillows and sleeping bags or duvet covers.
You are free to use the main garden and yard of the main house if no one is there.
Upon leaving you are asked to "leave it as you find it!". We will hold a 50 pound cleaning/damage deposit.
Please note that the washer and dryer and the dishwasher in the Kitchen should not be used, as we have found they take a while to get used to!

Circa 1900 this painting shows the farm buildings in the foreground and the church and river beyond.

St.Clement is a short walk to the centre of Truro, but seems a million miles away! at one time there was a castle on top of the hill above the farm.
